Sir Alex Ferguson fresh on January signings

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson seems certain not to buy any players in the January transfer window after questioning how helpful it is.

United have been linked with strikers Nicolas Anelka and Dimitar Berbatov but Ferguson told Inside United magazine: "I think the squad is good enough."

He added: "We do not always get great joy in January. It takes time for players to settle in.

"Look at what happened with [defenders] Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic."

The two men took time to settle in when they were signed during the January transfer window in 2006, but have since become established as first choices.

Nevertheless, Ferguson did concede he may require cover in defence, as his side pursues trophies on three fronts.

"Maybe we are short of cover in the left-back area now [left-back] Gabriel Heinze has left, but other than that, we are OK," he added.

Ferguson should soon have Paul Scholes, Park Ji-sung, Ben Foster and Mikael Silvestre fit again after major injuries.
